At
the 2018 Winter Olympics hosted in Pyeongchang, history was made as a
record-breaking 13 LGBT+ athletes competed and Eric Radford became the
Games’ first openly gay gold medalist. At the Commonwealth Games,
hosted on Australia’s Gold Coast, 14 openly LGBT+ athletes are amongst
the 6,000 athletes competing from 71 nations. This is amazing progress,
but pales in comparison to the over 8,000 LGBT+ athletes that will be
competing at the Paris 2018 Gay Games this
August. In addition to the athletes there will be 10’s of thousands of
excited spectators joining the festivities to celebrate diversity,
respect, equality, and solidarity.
From
4 August to 12 August, 2018, Paris will host the 10th edition of the
Gay Games, the world’s largest sporting, cultural and festive event open
to all! Registration is now open for athletes to compete in over 30 different sports at the Paris 2018.
Backed
by the highest French institutional and sporting bodies, Paris 2018
will offer participants and visitors from around the world an amazing
opportunity to participate in 50+ cultural and sporting events and enjoy
access to exclusive local facilities and cultural events. Many
prestigious venues in Paris and the Paris Region will open their doors,
including the Jean Bouin and Charléty stadiums, the historic Roman Arena
of Lutèce, the National Judo Institute, The Grand Palais and more.
The Paris 2018 Gay Games are
an inclusive event that embraces diversity, welcoming all who wish to
participate. The Games include programs rich in both athletic and
cultural activities and festivities designed to integrate all those who
wish to participate, united around the values of sharing, diversity,
respect, and sharing.
