Second Indonesia Yacht Show Attracts Visitors in Jakarta

Earlier this month, the Simpson Marine team traveled to Jakarta, where we displayed at the 2014 Indonesia Yacht Show – the second edition of this relatively new event in Asia's yachting calendar.

At our pontoon, part of the on-water display, guests were able to find out more about the elegant Italian-designed Monte Carlo Yachtsrange, for which we are now Southeast Asia's exclusive dealer, as well as learning about Beneteau's classically-styled Monte Carlo 5.

In addition to our on-water display, Simpson Marine Brokerage was also present at the exhibition hall area, to showcase the selection and range of second hand yachts we have to offer.

This event is fast becoming one of the leading luxury yachting and lifestyle exhibitions in Asia after last year's inaugural show attracted nearly 4,000 visitors, leading to an excellent response for exhibitors.

This year's show, held at Jakarta's fast-developing Batavia Sunda Kelapa Marina, offered visitors a unique opportunity to explore a variety of the latest yachts on offer in Southeast Asia, and learn about the different ways to enjoy the pleasures of tropical cruising.

The yacht show took place from Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 June.

MCY Experience Days a Resounding Success

As the exclusive dealer for Monte Carlo Yachts in Southeast Asia, Simpson Marine presented motor boat lovers the chance to explore these luxurious, Italian-designed yachts for themselves recently.

We held several MCY Sea Trial Experience days in May and June, after their official debut at the Singapore Yacht Show, and allowed yachting enthusiasts across Southeast Asia to experience first hand the thrill these superb yachts provide. The events proved incredibly popular with guests, attracting both potential buyers and a substantial group of media attendees.

The MCY76, the MCY65 and the MC5 were all available for viewing by guests and members of the media at each event.

The first experience event took place at Singapore's ONE°15 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove on 17 to 18 May, followed a few days later by another sea trial for customers in Iskandar, Malaysia. The yachts then traveled to Port Dickson, where they were on display for two days at the Admiral Marina & Leisure Club, before heading to Penang's Straits Quay for a final guest experience from 13 to 15 June.

Yacht Charters the Focus of Latest Taiwan Yachting Semina

On 12 June, Simpson Marine hosted the latest in a series of yachting seminars in Taiwan, aimed at sharing with guests some of the different ways to enjoy yachting in Asia.

The seminar, held at The Cigar Emporium in Taipei, focused on the theme of 'Yacht Charters' and covered everything from the benefits chartering provides, to what to expect on board your first yacht charter.

Presenters Mark Woodmansey, Senior Yacht Broker at Simpson Marine, and Richard Hou, Marketing Executive, explained to the 35 guests present how a charter is perfect for those trying out yachting for the first time.

Mark and Richard highlighted how charters offer boats suitable for every occasion, from classic sailing yachts to high-speed motor boats. Whether customers are planning a private trip with family and friends, or a corporate outing to host business clients or reward employees for their hard work, a charter can provide the perfect solution, they said.

The seminar also explored typical charter costs, explaining how a charter can provide an excellent and cost-effective introduction to the world of yachting, without the commitment of buying a yacht.

For more experienced sailing enthusiasts, said the duo, race charters also offer the flexibility to take part in some of the world's great regattas and events, such as Antigua Sailing Week, the St Barths Bucket and Les Voiles de St Tropez.

Taiwan Yachting Boosted by Second Penghu Regatta

Last year, Taiwan's stunning Penghu islands played host to the inaugural Penghu Regatta, which offered yachting enthusiasts the chance to explore new destinations and share sailing adventures amidst the beauty of Penghu's 64 islands.

The regatta returns again this month, offering participants an introduction to the yachting lifestyle and giving them the chance to take part in yacht racing activities.

Taking place from 21 to 29 June, the regatta will comprise two weekends of racing beginning with an inshore race in Penghu Bay. Participants will also enjoy an opening ceremony, and a welcome dinner, and award ceremony on the first night.

The following day, attendees will be able to take part in a Round the Island Race in South Penghu, followed by another award ceremony to recognize the winning crews.

As they prepare for the second weekend's races, participating yacht crews will have five days in which to explore the sights of this attractive island chain. The regatta will then conclude with the AUDI Pasage Race race on Saturday 28 June, before a final award ceremony and party at Wangan Island that evening.

Organized by the Penghu County Sailing Association and the Penghu County Sailing Committee, the regatta comes almost a year after Simpson Marine opened its third Taiwan office in the southern city of Kaohsiung to meetgrowing demand for yachting in Taiwan. The event is directed by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, the Taiwan Ministry of Transportation & Communications, the Penghu County Government and the Penghu County Council.

Over 20 yachts have already signed up for the competition, with more expected to join before the regatta officially opens.

Even before you start looking at boats, there are some basic questions that you should ask yourself.  If you are new to boats, then you will almost certainly be going for a power boat. For first time boaters, the simplicity of turning a key and heading out on to the water is a major attraction. But this is only the beginning.

The second question you should ask yourself is how much do you want to spend? This question alone will narrow down your choice significantly. If you plan to handle the boat yourself, then you shouldn't be thinking of anything too much over 50 feet in length. This will help you determine the type of boat that you need and, in some circumstances, the size of boat that you should go for. It can also help you decide on such things as speed and other performance factors.
