How to Stay Fit on Holiday

Many people find it difficult to maintain their weight, much less lose weight, while on holiday. A whirlwind of new activities and indulgences make it difficult to stick to a healthy diet and exercise routine. Gaining weight on vacation does not have to be your story however! T8 Fitness, your source for Yoga, Pilates, Rehab and Fitness Products in Hong Kong and Asia, has a few helpful tips for you on how to stay fit while traveling-- perfect for the upcoming summer holidays!

Local Food
Yes, trying new foods is an important part of traveling for many, but it doesn't have to be carb-loaded meals or deep fried sweets. Instead try subbing at least some of the high calorie cuisine for local produce. Try that fruit or veggie you've never heard of or rarely see back home. Visit local markets to see what new healthy foods you can discover-- and use them for inspiration when you get home!

Use a Fitness App or Smartwatch
Keep track of your daily activity with a digital step / exercise tracker. If you notice your physical activity is not where it should be, then you can make plans to stop by the hotel gym for a quick workout, or have a quick Pilates or yoga session in your hotel room (Remember to pack your ToeSox!), or go for an evening walk around the area with a friend.

Plan ahead, and opting for walking
Even if you are not a planner, take a few minutes before your holiday to quickly jot down a few essential things you want to see and do-- and opt for walking as much as possible. This way you will 1) Remember the important activities you want to do, 2) Stay active, and 3) Save money on transportation.

Bring your own snacks and supplements
(or plan to purchase some healthy snacks at a local grocery store)
Keep a few healthy snacks and supplements with you as you travel and go sightseeing. Avoiding hunger helps prevent overeating and helps keep you from overindulging on vending machine junk food at the airport and other places.

Pack Intelligently
You don’t need a gym, you don’t even need a mat as long as you have packed a pair of ToeSox grip gloves and ToeSox grip socks. Have a safe workout anywhere and on any surface with these easy to pack items!
We are dedicated to ensuring our products are designed with the highest level of quality and both functional and stylish details. Visit T8Fitness.com to see our wide variety of ToeSox and other fitness products. We offer delivery or pick up at 3 different locations: T8 Fitness office in Discovery Bay, Iso Fit which is in Central, or the warehouse located in Kwai Hing. Order today!

Cross Training with Pilates

Pilates is for everyone. What is less known is how beneficial Pilates is for the performance of athletes-- it is the perfect way to boost sports performance, power, strength, as well as lengthening and toning the whole body. Iso Fit, located in Central, Hong Kong, offers high-intensity, low-impact Pilates workouts to help you achieve optimal performance-- and as an added (and important!) benefit, the training also helps to reduce the risk of injury. Pilates is an excellent cross-training technique to help you up your game while training for any sport. There are a wide variety of professional athletes who benefit from Pilates—from professional golfers and tennis players to football and NBA players, right through to athletes like Olympic gold medalist runners like Natasha Hastings.

Here are a few reasons to show that Pilates is actually the perfect cross-training for every athlete:

Building Core Strength and Flexibility
Pilates mat work is a full-body workout, which concentrates on stabilizing and strengthening the core (from the shoulder to pelvic girdle; not just the abs). Core strength supports the back and neck, giving us healthy posture and strengthens the deep inner stabilizing muscles of the pelvis, abdomen, and back. This kind of strength and flexibility training converts well into all kinds of sports and daily physical activities.

But note that  if you are going to depend on Pilates exclusively for strength training, you should consider adding resistance exercises performed on large and small Pilates equipment. This equipment will expand your options for developing strength beyond your core-- you’ll be able to focus on building strength in your limbs (arms and legs) as well.

A good Pilates instructor is able to help you train your deep intrinsic stabilizing muscles to work in conjunction with the major muscle groups, thus creating efficient movement patterns and improving biomechanics for heightened sports performance.

Correct Imbalances
When you focus on training for a specific sport, you can create imbalances in your body due to repetitive movements. Pilates can help correct this, as it focuses on full body movement and creating equal length and strength in opposing muscle groups, thus counteracting aches and pains from repetitive sports training, and possibly preventing minor injuries.

Ready to begin your Pilates journey and experience its many benefits? Stop by Iso Fit Hong Kong to schedule your assessment or call us at 852 2869 8630.  Iso Fit Hong Kong is fully equipped with the full range of both Pilates and Gyrotonic equipment and offers both group classes and private sessions, as well as GYROTONIC® & Gyrokinesis training and rehabilitation.

Hong Kong announces First Virtual Banking Licenses, what does that mean for your Business?

Interested in starting or expanding your Fintech business into Hong Kong? As Asia’s key Industrial and Financial hub, Hong Kong has been an important conduit to mainland China for decades. As a result of this power, nearly every global bank has a presence in Hong Kong. Now, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has announced the issuance of the very first virtual banking licenses, making Hong Kong even more essential in the scope of innovation in financial services and Fintech.

Norman T.L. Chan, Chief Executive of the HKMA, made the announcement saying; “The introduction of virtual banks in Hong Kong is a key pillar supporting Hong Kong’s entry into the Smart Banking Era. It is a major milestone in reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a premier international financial centre. I believe that virtual banks will not only help drive FinTech and innovation, but also bring about brand new customer experiences and further promote financial inclusion in Hong Kong.”

What does this mean for your company?

Good News! Hopefully less red tape and a more efficient process in the banking arena as well as an enormous growth in crucial innovation and resources. Including the addition of digital payments, blockchain development, virtual banking, insurtech and more. The Hong Kong government is making a significant commitment to propelling sector growth, with a 2018 budget pledge to earmark HK$10 Billion (approximately USD $7.8 billion) to the development of financial services and Fintech over the next five years. Have any other governments done the same?

It’s a safe bet that investing in a business expansion or startup in Hong Kong will be beneficial for both parties, as Hong Kong begins its rise into becoming a global Fintech Hub.

A Career in Music: Hard Work, Intense Friendships, and Butterflies

Book tickets now for The Asian Youth Orchestra’s Summer Festival, held in Hong Kong from 20 July to 8 August 2019, and Asian Performance Tour with performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chiayi City, Seoul, Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Tokyo from 9 August to 1 September 2019.

We’re proud to have a hand in shaping the musical youth of Asia, and have seen many graduates go on to establish a successful career in the music industry. If you are considering a career in music, you must be prepared to work hard, very very hard. You may be surprised at how supportive people are in this profession, but you are always expected to give 110% at all times. Orchestra's are a family, and families must support each other to succeed-- we are all in the same boat together! There is constant support from all sides, especially in the Asian Youth Orchestra where we are investing in each and every student selected to play and tour the world with us.

The friendships you create with your fellow musicians will be intense. There are very few professions in which people get to know each other so deeply. They say music is a window into the soul. Therefore you can, and will, get to know very intimate details about your colleagues without ever uttering a word or knowing any details about their personal life.

Nervousness is normal! All musicians have faced the proverbial “butterflies in the stomach” before a performance. You likely faced them while auditioning for our Summer Tour… did you overcome them, or did they overcome you? Remember, we’re an orchestra… we’re a family… we’re all in this together! If you are having a hard time overcoming your nerves, talk to someone. Share your concerns. Sometimes that’s all you need to overcome it, and if you need more your teammates are here to help and support you. Success in this world is a group effort.

And on that note, remember every musician has messed up at some point. Everyone! From the most famous musicians to that person next to you right now. It’s not about the screw up, it’s how you handle it. Take note of what happened, learn from it, ask for help if needed, and move on to do better next time.

Success in the Music Industry can be very hard to achieve, it takes more than raw talent. It takes hard work, perseverance, confidence, and willingness to both take and give support to your fellow musicians.
