China: Environmental Protection Leader - Jane Goodall Foundation

As per my previous blog posts, you are most likely fully aware of who Dr. Jane Goodall is, what she stands for and the tremendous, noble acts she has accomplished in the past five decades in order to promote and raise awareness on topics of saving endangered species as well as improving the standard of life in the local communities that take on the responsibility to protect and serve those very species.

tuk1.jpg

With the United States pulling out of the Paris agreement, China and India have emerged as the new protectors of the planet. They are constantly taking steps forward to improving all sectors of their economy in order to benefit the most of the environment. Skeptics still mention that the population of Beijing, for example, cannot view the sunrise and the sunset due to the tremendous amount of smog, which is, in fact, true, however, the fact that the country’s administration is investing billions of dollars to change that is a step in the right direction. It is important to be thankful for every positive action.

tuk1a.jpg
Dr Goodall says that "China has made many steps forwards, there's an enormous amount of environmental protection going on in China, there are people studying all sorts of different animals, giant pandas are off the endangered species list, so yes, China has made major steps forward."

The only way to eradicate harmful environmental views from the global public is through education and raising awareness. The Jane Goodall Foundation fights for all of the above, but nothing can be achieved without your support. Showing your support means a great deal to us, keeps us motivated knowing that there are people who believe in us and enable us to continue our march against the harmful activities impacting the environment and with it all living creatures on the planet.

Asian Youth Orchestra World Tour with Sarah Chang

The Asian Youth Orchestra is a world class orchestra which consists of 109 young musicians gathered from all across Asia. Each year the orchestra goes on a major world tour around many continents and this year the young aspiring artists will visit Asia, North America, and Europe and perform in more than twenty different cities.  All of them rehearse and learn under the direct supervision of Richard Pontzious, the founder of the orchestra, in order to improve and perform well in front of a major audience on a global platform.

On the 4th of August, they will perform different acts of both Strauss and Beethoven in San Jose’s Hammer Theater and without a day’s holiday, they will perform at UC Berkeley's Zellerbach Auditorium the very next date with Sarah Chang. It will be the first special event on American soil as they will later continue to Washington DC and later to North Carolina. The last and final performance with Sarah Chang will be on the 13th of August in Tilles Center for Performing Arts in New York, after which the orchestra will switch continents again and go to Europe, where they will finish their world tour.

Another interesting part of the world tour this year, is that the youth orchestra will be joined by the world renowned violinist Sarah Chang in many performances. While the orchestra tours around Japan and China in July, in August their eyes are set on the European and American scene.

Who Is Sarah Chang?
Sarah Chang is one of the most famous musician child prodigies, born in 1980. Already at the age of nine, she was playing solos for both the Philadelphia Orchestra as well as the New York Philharmonic. Since then she has acted as a soloist for a number of different high-performance orchestras all around the globe. She is considered among the best violinists and people that have worked with her report of her extreme professionalism not only during live performances but also in rehearsals when the soloist has to allow the orchestra to catch up to her.

The Asian Youth Orchestra: How it began
One of the most famous schools for young aspiring musicians is the Asian Youth Orchestra. It all first began in 1987 when the founder, Richard Pontzious, was touring throughout Asia and introduced classical music geniuses such as Beethoven to the public. Students often ended up asking Pontzious of ways to study abroad and learn to play as well as him.

The idea of creating an orchestra was sparked! An orchestra that might unite the region, celebrate the excellence of young Asian musicians and encourage this new generation of talented individuals to build on what they have at home Thus Richard Pontzious began to bring the Asian Youth Orchestra to life with the help of several friends and colleagues, seeking to fulfill the dreams of many aspiring musicians and enable them to develop professionally as well as bring beautiful music to the public.

Gay Games Hong Kong 2022: Site Inspection Wrap-up

A whirlwind of activity happened recently as the Federation of Gay Games (FGG) site inspectors visited Hong Kong to assess the city’s ability to host Gay Games Hong Kong 2022.  This included 3 and a half days full of breakfasts, business meetings and inspecting 42 sport and cultural venues in Hong Kong along with a community reception at PMQ (aka party!). In addition to the sporting and cultural venues, community support was also a huge factor is evaluating Hong Kong’s readiness to host such a monumental event. We’re happy to report- the support was nearly overwhelming! Thank you so much for all your support and helping make the inspection such a success!

The FGG will announce the 2022 host city in November 2017.
gghk3.jpg
Nearly double the number of expected attendees were at a breakfast forum, held at Hong Kong’s famous China Club, for supporters of Hong Kong’s bid. This included guest speaker Peter Reading, lead counsel for the Equal Opportunities Council of Hong Kong, whom provided a briefing on LGBT and civil rights strides in Hong Kong. As well as local legislators, the Hong Kong Tourism Board and other ambassadors, sporting and community leaders and businesses.

Other activities included checking out the beautiful concert facilities at City Hall, Victoria Park tennis and swimming facilities, and the Hong Kong Stadium home to the world famous Rugby Sevens! The stadium is strategically situated in a low traffic area and is accessible directly by the highly reliable and safe MTR. Getting to and from the stadium is no more difficult than a walk to your corner convenience store.

We crossed to the south side of Hong Kong island to see the Stanley Beach followed by The Hong Kong Royal Yacht Club’s world class facilities on Middle Island. The facilities regularly host regattas of 60 or more sailing boats at a time all owned, maintained and provided by HKRYC. We finished the day 2 whirlwind tour with a must-see stop at Victoria Peak. If a single image could encapsulate Hong Kong, it would be the panorama from Victoria Peak. Looking down at the city from this famous vantage point, you'll see one of the finest harbors on Earth and the brilliant Hong Kong skyline.

gghk3a.jpg
It was nearly time to say goodbye to the FGG inspectors, but we couldn’t let them leave without a party- Hong Kong style! More than 60 local businesses brought banners to show their support and PMQ filled quickly with nearly 700 supporters crossing age, gender, ethnicity and orientation. Hong Kong clearly met the challenge to show its melting pot mentality and demonstrated that diversity rocks!

Social Media Basics for Your Small Business

Advancement of technology has drastically changed the world the past decade. Even Google’s marketers didn’t expect social media to take the world by a storm and were forced to completely change their business models from traditional ones to ones based online. In order to do so, however, a person should be fully aware of the basic concepts in order to deal with the challenges social Medias put. Prosperity Research Digital Agency (PRDA) offers a full package of services and knowledge each individual should know in order to prepare themselves for the digital world. With more than a decade of experience, the agency’s experts have been involved in numerous projects.

An Overview of the Last Decade
Let us take the American market as an example. In 2007 only a quarter of adults used online social networks. Nowadays that number has risen to 65% regarding all social Medias and the staggering 80% for Facebook. Even though many “experts” predicted that Facebook will eventually start losing ground, the company has proved to be the leader in the social media market with no realistic prognosis of anyone challenging them any time soon.

In order to take full advantage of those networks, however, there are a few basic steps you should take into account.

prda4.jpg

  1. Fill Your Profile
The first impression is essential to all things - business is no different. People who open your social media profile will most likely be viewing it for the first time. You want to influence them right then and there in order to convert them on a later phase.  Fill up all of the information fields with valuable information about your business, projects, and ways to contact you, your website address and whatever else you could think of. Make sure that the information will indeed bring value to the reader.
Pro tip: Have an engaging cover photo. Many people completely disregard their cover photo, while in fact it plays a huge role in potential customers first impressions!
  1. Share Regularly
You want to keep your followers busy and expand your brand. In order to do so you need to frequently share valuable, engaging content which will attract your target audience's attention.  People share unique content, and every share helps expand your reach!

prda4a.jpg

  1. Respond to Comments
Answer comments as soon as possible You might want to hire a professional to specifically focus on your social media- both responses and content. It can be very time consuming, and this is time you could put to better use growing and managing your business.

  1. Focus on Your Content
We cannot stress this enough. Simply posting content isn’t enough; it needs to resonate with the readers after gaining their attention. By giving valuable content to your customers, they bring that value back in many different forms. Poor content might result into unfollowing you and not supporting your business or product.

The Juiciest, Most Tender Char Siu Ever!

Any list of must-try foods in Hong Kong has to include Traditional Chinese BBQ or Char siu. Char siu is a culinary tradition dating back to the Upper Paleolithic era! Maybe you’d love to grill Scan's flower-fed Omega 3 pork chops on the beach? Or would you rather have the convenience of a bbq pit near to public transport? Perhaps you prefer your BBQ prepared and cooked in an established restaurant, like FINDS, Hong Kong's first & finest Nordic restaurant? Whatever your personal preference, Hong Kong has the BBQ spot for you, as well as your friends and family to enjoy tender and succulent flower-fed Omega 3 pork from Scan Farms.

hks3.jpg
Cha Siu cooked on a charcoal grill is divine! The meat is beautifully charred with a shiny glaze. You can smell the wonderful smoky aroma from afar. Traditionally long strips of seasoned boneless pork are skewered with long forks and placed over a fire. But the kebab style BBQ is likely the best choice for your summer grilling party. It cooks very quickly and is addictively tasty especially when using Scans flower-fed Omega 3 pork. The high quality omega-3 fat makes it quick to prepare and since it stays juicy and tender longer, cooking time is less critical.
A basic recipe would include creating the marinade(five-spice powder is a must!), then using ⅔ of it to marinate your skewered pork overnight- then placing on a prepared charcoal grill over direct heat and cook until nicely charred, about 5 minutes per side. Brush glaze on the meat. Move the meat to the indirectly heated side, cover the grill, and allow to cook. Check on the meat every 5 minutes and brush with glaze. Cook until a thermometer inserted into the center of your pork reaches an internal temperature of between 75° and 80°C to ensure that the fat has fully melted and gives a good mouth-feel.

hks3b.jpg
The consistent quality of Scan's pork means that the best results are always attainable, for each and every meal. Hong Kong style BBQ is a timeless tradition to be shared and enjoyed by all. Some people claim that the summertime is the only time to BBQ, but we’ve found that in Hong Kong- it's always the right time to BBQ!
