Auditions are here! Every Spring the Asian Youth Orchestra holds our yearly auditions for aspiring young musicians across Asia to join us for six weeks each summer-- including a three-week Rehearsal Camp in Hong Kong, followed by a three-week international concert tour with celebrated conductors and solo artists. The upcoming 2019 tour includes performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chiayi City, Seoul, Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Tokyo.  Visit our website for more details

Classical music is more than something that’s pleasing to the ear, in fact listening to it has a lot of perks… some that might surprise you! So keep reading and learn how listening to Classical Masterpieces by artists such as Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Max Bruch, Richard Strauss, and Johannes Brahms can help you to become smarter, healthier, and better able to get a good night's sleep.

Listening to classical music can help you lower your blood pressure. It’s true! There was a study done a few years back that concluded that “Participants who listened to classical music had significantly lower post-task systolic blood pressure levels”.

Whether you are an insomniac who has a hard time falling asleep, or a restless sleeper that can’t quite reach the depths of REM sleep needed to adequately function, this study showed that classical music can help you sleep better, deeper, and overall improve sleep quality.

Say goodbye (or at least help diminish) pain by cueing up your favorite classical music. This 2006 study found that people with chronic pain felt better and had decreased pain after listening to music. Music can be a powerful rehabilitation tool!

It’s true, listening to classical music may increase your IQ. This study showed that participants who listened to Mozart’s Sonata for just 10 minutes demonstrated IQ scores that were 10 points higher than before listening to Mozart. How is this possible? Classical music is believed to enhance the brain’s spatial-temporal reasoning-- ie cognitive understanding. Skeptical? Maybe, but it doesn’t hurt to add a few minutes of classical music to your daily routine.

What other benefits have you experienced? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
