Blackpool to Host the 2019 LGBT+ International Powerlifting Championships

Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022 is proud to support the LGBT+ International Powerlifting Championships, which will take place in Blackpool, England in Summer 2019 from 19th – 21st July 2019. Registration is now open! For more details about the LGBT International Powerlifting Championships and to register for Blackpool 2019 please visit their webpage here, or join the Facebook Group here.

Powerlifting has been part of the Gay Games programme since its beginnings in 1982 until the 2014 Gay Games in Cleveland Ohio. Sadly powerlifting was not included at the 2018 Paris Gay Games, but will make a big return in the upcoming 2022 Gay Games hosted in Hong Kong with the assistance of the LGBT+ Powerlifting Union. (Follow #GGHK2022 on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay updated on the details!)

The 2019 LGBT+ International Powerlifting Championships will be hosted by the very modern Blackpool Sixth Form College, with the competition itself happening in their high tech 300 seat theatre auditorium. Plenty of room for athletes to participate, and for supporters and friends to watch and show their support. Please note that all athletes and coaches will need to be registered in 2019 to gain access to warm up and competition areas.

LGBT+ International Powerlifting Championship athletes are welcome to register and participate regardless of their age, sexuality, health status, ability, or gender. There is also a new Mx  third gender category, which welcomes transgender, non-binary and intersex participants to compete. The LGBT IPC is one of the first sporting events in the world to include a third gender category, so that Mx people have the ability to participate in a safe environment, without fear of discrimination.

We look forward to seeing the upcoming competition and urge our friends, and followers to show their support and attend if possible. Powerlifting will be one of the events at Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022, and we look forward to seeing how our partners at the LGBT+ International Powerlifting Championship plan and execute this diversity-inspiring sporting event.
