Pure Nordic Pork from Flodins: Nordic Seasons

In our modern world, we have almost forgotten that life used to completely revolve farming, fishing and hunting. In other words, the gathering of food! Flodins farmers know this all too well, having raised generation after generation growing and producing premium quality pork since 1913. These families are deeply rooted in the old farming traditions and way of life. Farming communities have their own rhythms, based on the landscape around them and the passing of the seasons. The working day has its designated time for work, food and rest. The cold can be very cold, not to mention dark and windy, but the seasons are often more mild than you would expect.

Spring in particular is a lovely time to visit for lush greenery, longer days and crisp air. And the start of the growing season for our farmers! On average, the frost-free Nordic growing season starts in May and ends in Oct, approximately 160 days.

The summer months, June, July and August are the most popular months for travellers. There are many reasons why people choose this time, including the temperate, sunny weather and the wonderful 'summer house' coastal culture found throughout the region.

Autumn brings in crisp, clean air and colourful leaves. Soon winter will descend, so Nordics make it a point to enjoy the season to the fullest, particularly all the delicious seasonal foods that emerge at this time, such as Swedish mushrooms and fresh Finnish berries like lingonberries!

Winter is really, really cold. But if you can cope with it, winter travel has some incredible benefits. It’s your best chance to see the Northern Lights and enjoy some spectacular winter sports like cross country skiing and ice fishing. Throughout December, many also enjoy festive Christmas markets and decor. Winter months are very good for our farmers, the frigid temperatures kill germs leading far less disease and use of antibiotics than other nations around the world.

The need for clean, natural food in its rawest most pure form is of great importance and Nordic farmers take care to provide this. The climate slows down the growth rate, making Flodins pork much tastier and richer in flavour. Every member of the Flodins team is committed to delivering the absolute best product they can.
