Local non-profit organization, BigLove Alliance, successfully hosted their 2017 Fundraising Dinner last month with charity performances and auction of unique LGBT+ works of art and experiences as well as the presentation of the first “BigLove Hero Award”. Established in January 2013, BigLove Alliance was founded by artists Anthony Wong and Denise Ho HOCC, 2016 #1 OUTleader Gigi Chao, LegCo members Cyd Ho and Raymond Chan, media veterans Brian Leung and Wallace Kwok. BigLove works to advocate and protect basic equal rights for the LGBT+ community. In a similar fashion, for over a quarter century the Gay Games have built an international legacy of changing cultural, social and political attitudes towards LGBT+ people across the globe. We are proud to have the support of the BigLove Alliance in our endeavor to bring the 2022 Gay Games to Hong Kong.
BigLove’s next target is to raise sufficient funds to create an LGBT+ media platform to advance their ongoing advocacy works on anti-discrimination and marriage equality. Their message of “All men are created equal” is spread across Asia, and hopefully the world, by creating channels of dialogue between the LGBT+ community and the general public through creative and continuous engagement in media, publishing and cultural events. The gay community, including the BigLove Alliance, continues to lobby for equal rights for same-sex unions and anti-discrimination legislation and social recognition of same-sex couples. Many are hopeful that hosting the 2022 Gay Games in Hong Kong could be a stepping stone toward finally legalizing LGBT marriage in Hong Kong.
Hosting the 2022 Gay Games in Hong Kong will be a never-to-be-forgotten experience. This is where people- no matter their sexual preference or disability- will be able to strive for their personal best and feel the inclusiveness of being part of a something larger- far beyond sports. For people who have never been to Asia it will be a chance to experience the kindness, the culture, the food and the different ways of life of this part of the world. There is no doubt that Hong Kong’s hosting of the Gay Games will have a positive impact on promoting an inspirational vision of inclusion and diversity throughout Asia.
