Improve Your Balance with Three Exercises from T8 Fitness

Balance is an integral part of each and every movement you make. You need to be able to maintain your balance as you move through your day, as you change direction, or during any kind of quick movements. Good balance can assist in preventing injuries, during both workouts and exercise movements, as well as everyday tasks like cleaning the house or running for the MTR. T8 Fitness offers a wide-range of equipment solutions which assists with balance-- as well as all your yoga, Pilates, rehabilitation and exercise needs.

Unless you're an avid yogi or surfer, you probably don't think about your balance, and how good or bad it is, very often. And even if you do, there is always room for improvement! Here are three exercises that can help you see how good, or bad, your balance is, and provide a starting point if you’re looking to improve your stability:

Single-Leg Balance and Squat
Balance on one leg with the other leg lifted up, knee toward your chest, for as long as you can. Ideally, you will be able to do this for 30 seconds on each leg with no problem. If not, keep trying until you hit that 30-second goal.

Bounds
Bound basically means, Jump. Start by standing on one leg, then make a small jump forward. Pause for 2-3 seconds with good control, then jump backwards (on that same leg). See how many you can complete on each foot while maintaining your balance.

T-Stand With Side Bend
Start balancing on your left leg with your right knee bent at a 90-degree angle, hands extended out to the side. Hands at your hips, tightening your core, and raise your right leg out behind you. As you do, lower your torso and reach your right hand to touch the inside of your left ankle. Return to start. Then reach your right hand down to touch the outside of your right leg. Try to complete the sequence eight times on one side, then repeat on your opposite side.
