The ShanghaiPRIDE Fifth Annual Rainbow Bike Ride is Nearly Here!

The ShanghaiPRIDE Festival, an annual festival that celebrates diversity that began in 2009, will be held from the 8th to the 16th of June. But the ShanghaiPRIDE Rainbow Bike Ride is happening this weekend on Sat 18 May! (Click here if you’re interested in registering, but be aware there are very limited spots) The 2019 Rainbow Ride date was selected in order to commemorate May 17th -- International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, otherwise referred to as IDAHOT.

The event is planned to consist of six cycling teams, each one representing one of the six colors from the Rainbow Flag. Each team will depart from a different location, from all corners of Shanghai, ultimately meeting at the Cotton Bar on Xinhua Road to create a colorful display of unity. The organizers of the ShanghaiPRIDE Rainbow Bike Ride would like to invite everyone to join in the celebration at the Cotton Bar at 12:00 noon that day-- even if you are unable to participate in the ride. Please go and show your support!

The proceeds from the Rainbow Ride will be used to organize the 2019 Shanghai Pride Festival. This year’s theme is “Share the Pride”.

The 2019 ShanghaiPRIDE Festival will officially kick off on Saturday, June 8 with the opening night of the Pride Art exhibition. As mainland China’s largest and longest-running Pride festival, it aspires to raise LGBT+ awareness and visibility, as well as to promote self-acceptance and acceptance for the LGBT+ community through sports, cultural, educational, and social activities. This event is entirely organized by volunteers, and includes a Film Festival along with a week full of art, film, discussions, parties and community-building activities.

Please visit the ShanghaiPRIDE Facebook Page and Website for more information.
