Brighten Your Daily Commute with Classical Music

Be sure to attend The Asian Youth Orchestra’s Summer Festival, held in Hong Kong from 20 July to 8 August 2019, and Asian Performance Tour with performances in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hong Kong, Taipei, Chiayi City, Seoul, Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Tokyo from 9 August to 1 September 2019.

Whilst Hong Kong has a highly developed and sophisticated transport network, the average workers commute is about an hour and a half long each day-- mostly due to congestion, traffic, and a recent surge in vehicle ownership. Over time this daily journey can become tiring, fortunately there are many ways to pass the time. If you’re looking for a mental health boost in addition to easing the stress of your everyday commute, listening to classical music may be the way forward for you.

Learn how listening to a bit of Brahms, Chopin, or Morricone while you travel can help:

If you need to be your most productive self, listening to your favorite classical pieces has been shown to lower cortisol levels, thus leading to stress reduction and lower anxiety levels. Studies noted that this was particularly true of selections with
a regular rhythm or low pitch. Three calming pieces you may enjoy listening to are:

Symphony No. 2 – Adagio (iii), Rachmaninov
‘By the Banks of Green Willow’, George Butterworth
At Church’, Slovak Suite, Vítězslav Novák

In addition, listening to classical music has been shown to enhance brain power, as well as productivity. Have you heard of the “Mozart effect”? In a study by the University of Maryland, a group of radiologists reported a sharper memory and increased accuracy when Baroque pieces were played in hospital reading rooms.

With easy access to the internet and a variety of devices to listen from, there’s really never been a better time to brighten up your daily commute with music. Give it a try, and let us know your results! We always love to hear comments from our fans and followers.
