August 15th is Program A, featuring Richard Pontzious, conductor, along with awards winning violinist soloist Moné Hattori. The program includes:
  • Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio Espagnol
  • Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1 in g minor
  • Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade

 August 16th is Program B, featuring Joseph Bastian, conductor, along with Hong Kong pianist Rachel Cheung. The program includes:

The 2019 Stonewall Pride March



2019 is an extraordinary and historic year for the LGBT+ community, as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, which are well known as the origin of the modern LGBT+ movement. We at Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022, and we hope, the world, will be watching as the 2019 Stonewall Pride March begins-- showing our strong support for not only the first, but the largest Pride celebration in the world! LGBT+ Pride events are designed to inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate our diverse community. And none of this can happen without you! Your support in all things LGBT+ make a difference-- from the smallest ripple in the pond comes significant change in the world. The Stonewall Riots, which began nearly 50 years ago on June 28th1969 prove this-- when 500 people gathered for a “Gay Power” demonstration in Washington Square Park, followed by a candlelight vigil in Sheridan Square. Now NYC Pride has continued this proud tradition by hosting the event in various locations throughout the city each and every year following, culminating in the now 50th celebration in which an estimated 4.5 million people will be there, including 115,000 marchers (about 67,000 more than last year).

As we honor Stonewall’s 50th anniversary, take a moment to reflect and celebrate the milestones achieved in the LGBT+ movement over the past fifty years -- made possible due to the actions of the trailblazers who first stood up for their rights. The first time in history that people from the LGBT+ community fought back against injustice-- a raid on a local gay bar. The Stonewall riots are the birth of the gay liberation movement, and it would do us all good to take a moment to remember, be thankful, and continue their good work.

Music Education is important to begin at a young age


 
Each year The Asian Youth Orchestra offers young, talented musicians from across Asia the opportunity for advanced study, performance and international concert tours with celebrated artists and conductors. The Asian Youth Orchestra was designed for just this reason, to celebrate the excellence of local, young musicians and encourage new generations of talented individuals-- brought to life by Richard Pontzious with the help of Ben and A. Jess Shenson as well as Sally Aw and Yehudi Menuhin. They dreamed of offering opportunities for Asia’s brightest young musicians for advanced study and performance in an international environment after Richard Pontzious saw the extreme need during his time in Taiwan, Japan and China in 1967.

Learning how to play an instrument is a very mentally stimulating activity that can improve your child's concentration levels, as well as the ability to make logical decisions, and enhance memory. Children who study music also tend to have larger vocabularies, advanced reading skills and are better able to work together as a team. Teamwork is very important as your musical skill progresses! Daily music practice cultivates patience and discipline, as your child learns to set and follow schedules, meet deadlines, and is consistently practicing for better results. These traits can assist our youth in becoming successful later in life-- whether pursuing a musical career or not.

Another, often desired, trait that children pick up during music lessons is patience and discipline-- which in turn helps them to maintain and improve the ability to stay calm and composed in social settings. Musical training is also associated with an increased in imagination and creativity. Creative individuals utilize their creativity in every part of their lives, whether it’s their job or a recreational activity.
