The
Gay Games, the world’s most inclusive sporting event, kicked off this
year on August 4th in Paris, France with more than 10,000 participants
from around the world. As part of Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022’s (#GGHK2022) team, PRDA,
Asia’s leading social media agency, was there to deliver social media
success over eight popular social media platforms in seven languages
with 2,000,000 views over 10 days. More people saw Gay Games 10 in Paris
through GGHK2022’s social media channels than any other single source!
We
were also proud to sponsor the #TeamHK Sports Uniforms at the event,
which were worn by out and proud LGBT+ athletes and allies at the
opening ceremonies on August 4th and while participating in a vast
variety of regional and international events. Over the 4 day event over
10,000 people of diverse backgrounds from across the globe, and ranging
in ability from beginners to professionals, competed in 36 sports and
events. This included traditional ones, like basketball, rowing, and
aquatics, as well as less common competitions, such as pétanque,
dancesport, fencing, and urban dance. The Gay Games have grown
monumentally since its humble San Francisco beginnings in 1982, where it
was founded by Dr. Thomas F. Waddell, an Olympic decathlete.
It’s now been over a year since PRDA was
asked to join Gay Games Hong Kong 2022’s team, and it’s been an
incredible journey. Our social media experts have assisted them in
accumulating over 50,000 Facebook followers, and nearly 13,000 Instagram
followers with a monthly reach of over 1.5 million fans. In China, the #GGHK2022 Sina
Weibo winning announcement post had over 67,000 readings. Using Social
Media to its full advantage, along with heavy preparation and many many
meetings offline, was a major contributing factor to winning the bid to
host the 2022 Gay Games in Hong Kong.
