We
are thrilled to welcome Giorgio Versiglia, Principal Bassoonist and
Master Teacher in Bergamo, Italy, back for his eighth year with the Asian Youth Orchestra in
Hong Kong this summer. Bringing his vast experience and skill to the
table, Giorgio Versiglia will again be coaching the Asian Youth
Orchestra bassoon and contrabassoon section.
Background:
Giorgio Versiglia began
his studies at the Piacenza Conservatory and graduated from the Civic
Musical Institute Gaetano Donizetti in Bergamo, after winning the Simon
Mayr Award for the best degree of the year. Well-known as a major force
in music education, he is currently a master teacher at the Conservatory
Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali G. Donizetti in Bergamo.
He
has an extensive amount of experience, having performed since 1985 as
the Principal Bassoon at Orchestra Gaetano Donizetti Opera Festival in
Bergamo. In addition he has appeared as Principal Bassoonist of the
Bergamo Music Festival Orchestra, the Orchestra del Festival Pianistico
di Brescia e Bergamo, the Italian Philharmonic Orchestra, and I Musici
di Parma. He has also worked with RAI's Orchestra, RTSI Lugano,
Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, Orchestra da camera CARME, Teatro Carlo
Felice in Genova, Orchestra da Camera in Bologna, Orchestra Quartettone
in Milan, Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, Cameristi Lombardi, Orchestra
Milano Classica, Symphony Orchestra Toscanini in Parma, Orchestra Teatro
Regio in Parma, I Musici di Parma, Orchestra Stabile of Bergamo,
Orchestra della Scala, Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, and Teatro
dell'Opera in Roma.
Giorgio
Versiglia has toured in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Algeria, Egypt,
Portugal, Azores, Switzerland, the former Czechoslovakia, Hungary, the
former Soviet Union, the United States, Luxembourg, Sweden, Romania,
Japan.
Incredibly
Giorgio Versiglia has also had the honor, and outstanding skill, to
perform as soloist under the direction of famous conductors such as:
Isaac Karabtchevsky, Miltiades Caridis, Thomas Briccetti, Francesco
Fanna, Yuri Bashmet, Rheinheld Seifried and many others.
We
are very proud to have Giorgio Versiglia as part of the AYO team, to
lead and inspire the young talented musicians selected to join us this
year from throughout Asia.
