Gay Games Hong Kong 2022 Briefing Hosted by BMCC

We want to give a big Thank You to the BMCC (Blessed Minority Community Church) for hosting a recent briefing session for Gay Games Hong Kong 2022! On 20, August 2017 the Hong Kong Preparatory Committee, BMCC members and the community gathered at the local Hong Kong church to learn more about the world-class sport and cultural festival that is the Gay Games. Information was provided about the contents of the games and the bidding progress, as well as the core mission of the Gay Games: to promote equality of human beings through organisation and participation in the international sport and cultural event. The spirit of equality is enshrined in the Games’ principle of inclusion for individual differences.

At the briefing session; registration and participation for the upcoming 2018 Paris Gay Games was highly encouraged. There was also a beautiful jazz music performance followed by a very touching blessing ceremony by Pastor Joe Pang. Afterwards all church members were giving prayers to the GGHK2022 team winning the 2022 bid.
The next Gay Games will be held in Paris in 2018 and anticipates 15,000 participants. The Hong Kong team will be attending the Paris General Assessment Conference in mid-October 2017, for a final sprint for the right to host the 2022 Gay Games in Hong Kong.

The Gay Games is a world-class sport and cultural festival organised by the LGBT+ community every 4 years. Athletes, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender, age, level of ability and other differences, are welcome to participate in the Games. Gay Games Hong Kong 2022 would not where it is today, shortlisted to host the 2022 Gay Games, without the support and involvement of everyone!

Founded in San Francisco in 1982, the Gay Games have become the world’s largest sporting and cultural event led by LGBT+ athletes, artists, and musicians. In 2014 the Gay Games were hosted by Cleveland (USA), and involved over 8,800 individuals from 60 countries competing in 37 sport disciplines. Organizers estimate that more than a one billion dollars will be pumped into the Hong Kong economy if the games are held here. The Gay Games would make positive long-term impacts on Hong Kong’s overall well-being as well as LGBT+ rights long after the games have ended. The festival covers 3 themes: Sports, Arts & Culture and Academic Conference.
