Hong Kong will be the first Asian city to host the Gay Games since its inception in 1982. The games see thousands of competitors from dozens of countries flock to the city to compete in approximately 36 different sporting events over a nine-day period. It is expected that hosting the Games will bring at least half a billion HK dollars economic impact to the city. Local sports, including Tower Running, Trail Running and Dragon Boating are included in the proposal. Alongside the sporting events, arts and culture events, including calligraphy, lion dancing, and the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be featured.
